Summary
We see so many different things including many rare bone and soft tissue tumors. The residents are great. Drawbacks are that it is a self motivted program, we don't have attendiings at our lectures. chemistry is not very good here. I definitely feel prepared. I would choose this program again. A lot of residents stay in the area and end up working in Tampa. Many seem to do fellowships here. Feel free to ask me questions.
My Schedule
Work starts around 8 to 830. On lecture days which is Tues and Fri the day starts at 8. If you choose to, you can sign out dermpath at 7AM which is not mandatory. Most of the time you're out at 5. Some rotations you might get out earlier. The latest I have ever stayed is 7 and on very few occasions.
My Learning Experience
I can't think of any faculty member who I wouldn't want to work with. Some of course are better at teaching than others. We stress scope time at this program. It is more 1 on 1. The attendings teach at the scope. Again some teachers are better than others. We have lectures 2x a week for three hours total. Once a month we have a forensic lecture for 1 hour. While rotating through Moffitt we have an additional conference once a week. We are doing topic based lectures and we cover the major topics. Lectures are pretty good.
My Life and Environment
I love the other residents I work with. They are a great bunch of people. We all get along really well. Everyone is very pleasant. I thnk this is one of the most attractive features of the porgram. We rotate through 3 different hospitals mainly and it seems like 2 are getting a facelift. All the residents have their own microscope. At moffitt we have our own computer and desk space. The work area is pretty good. We have 1 per year but the current 1st year class doesn't have any.
